Together We Can Make it Happen!
The AUTISM Educators Act (H.R. 5195) shows grassroots advocacy at its best. The bill demonstrates how Members of Congress, regardless of political party and across the ideological spectrum, can stand together with students, families, educators and community leaders to support students with autism and to improve learning opportunities for everyone in our public schools. The bill was created through parent collaboration with their Congressman to meet a critical need in our public schools.
With the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) increasing to epidemic proportions in the United States (1 in 88 children diagnosed with ASD by age 8, including 1 in 54 boys), educators need effective training to teach this growing population. The bipartisan AUTISM Educators Act (H.R. 5195) supports local initiative by helping school districts across the country improve training for teachers in general education classrooms who work with students with ASD. This bill can help many learners nationwide.
