Ask to speak to your Representative's office.  

1.   Once you are transferred to the Representative's office, ask to speak to the Legislative Aide who handles Education issues.  

2.   Talking Points to guide your conversation: 
  • Introduce yourself and let them know you are a constituent.
  • As a constituent, ask that your Representative co-sponsor and help pass the AUTISM Educators Act (H.R. 1509).
  • This bill meets a critical need in our public schools and helps local educational districts to better prepare to teach the growing number of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders who are integrated in general education classrooms across the country.  
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimates that ASD affects 1 in 88 children by age 8, including 1 in 54 boys. 
  • Most general education teachers are not adequately trained to teach the growing number of students with ASD in their classrooms. 
  • The training will improve educational outcomes for many students and foster a better learning environment for everyone.  
  • Please co-sponsor and help pass the AUTISM Educators Act (H.R. 1509). 
  • Let them know you’d like to follow up in a few days to check to see if your Representative has co-sponsored the bill.
  • Thank them for their time. Let them know you will check back. 

3.  In about ten days, check to see if he/she has become a co-sponsor of the legislation and follow up as needed.
